Day 2: Happy Sabbath Jolly Green Giant

So...we slept in the car last night. What does sleeping in a car do to grown man and women? Absolutely, positively nothing good. But we made it to some where in Wisconsin last night (oh yeah, by the way, you hit Wisconsin from Illinois, not Minnesota). Then Dad woke up and kept driving.

Then Dad saw this mileage sign that said, "Blue Earth 36". We joked about there being blue earth there at this silly place called Blue Earth, Minnesota. Thanks to the wonderful technological things like cell phones, mobile web, Google, and Wikipedia, we discovered two actually crazy awesome things about Blue Earth. First, the Jolly Green Giant (you know, of that vegetable brand) exists in Blue Earth. See photo below:
Ha! Who knew? We sure didn't. Apparently Wikipedia is good for something. The other thing cool about Blue Earth is that--like the Transcontinental Railroad meeting in the middle and that last railroad tie being nailed down with a golden spike--the interstate we have been driving on all day, I-90, met from west and east in Blue Earth. They commemorated this meeting with a "golden" piece of pavement. We stopped at this rest area that had a sign about it, but didn't get us close to that piece of pavement. Once we got back on the highway, there was this yellow strip of pavement, but we drove by too fast. Therefore, there is no cool picture, but we did drive past the joining of I-90 from west to east. I'm not too sure about that piece of pavement really being golden though...just saying...

We drove and drove and drove some more. Again, I slept some, read some, stared out the window some. I did get to drive today! I love driving. Have I ever told you that? I really do. I also love driving when the speed limit is 70+ like today when it was 75.

Mom and Dad slept while I drove. Ashley held on for dear life. Wait--I'm a great driver, what am I saying? Finally we got Kadoka which is the last real town before the Badlands. We grabbed our hotel (yay!) then headed to some crazy wilderness area. See the photos below. We had a pretty spectacular day even though it rained like crazy a couple of times. Billy goats, prairie dogs, BUFFALO (we had staring contests with them. Luckily, we didn't have to try out the State Farm jingle), and rainbows.

Okay, so this place is just RIDICULOUS. You're driving along, right? There's prairie land, nice rolling hills, grass, a few trees...then BAM! There's a freaking CLIFF and below it is land that looks like that picture up there!
Billy goats were hopping all around the Badlands. Those are babies to the left.
 Buffalo don't need no underwear!
 Baby buffalo playin' peek-a-boo!
That's a prairie dog on the far left, some sort of falcon-like bird right below the buffalo, and then, well, you see it, the buffalo.
All the rainbows were really faint. The one in this picture is to the right...
And that concludes our day--a really awesome sunset.

We are now in our hotel, with lovely internet and promises of pancakes and bananas for breakfast. Tomorrow we go to Mt. Rushmore (I'm so excited!) and then head to Yellowstone. We are cruuuusssiiiinnngggg!
